How to Repair Summer Sun Damage: Your Fall Skin Reset Guide

September 17, 2026

Summer may be over, but signs of sun exposure can linger. Discover which treatments can help address pigmentation, texture, redness and other post-summer skin concerns.

Summer is wonderful for long days, vacations and time outdoors—but by September, your skin may be showing a little more of summer than you’d like.

Brown spots may look darker. Your complexion may seem less even. Skin can feel rougher or look dull despite your usual skincare routine. And pigmentation that seemed to appear overnight is often the result of sun exposure accumulating over time.

The good news? Fall is an ideal time to reassess your skin and create a plan for the months ahead.

At ReJuvU Beauty Haven in West Point, Utah, we use several different technologies and treatments for sun damage, pigmentation, texture and overall skin rejuvenation. The right choice depends on what you’re seeing in your skin—not simply which treatment happens to be trending.

What Does Sun Damage Look Like?

Sun damage doesn't always show up as a traditional “sun spot.” It can appear in several different ways, including:

 • Brown spots and freckles
• Uneven pigmentation
• Blotchy or uneven skin tone
• Redness
• Rough or uneven texture
• Fine lines
• Dullness
• Changes in skin elasticity

Some pigmentation can also resemble conditions such as melasma, which requires a different treatment approach. That's one reason we recommend identifying what we're treating before jumping into a procedure.

Why Is Fall a Great Time for Skin Rejuvenation?

Many treatments for pigmentation and skin resurfacing require careful sun avoidance before and after treatment. As summer ends, shorter days and changes in our outdoor routines can make it easier to limit prolonged sun exposure and protect the skin during the treatment process.

That can make fall and winter especially convenient seasons for treatments that may require a series or involve resurfacing.

It doesn't mean sunscreen gets packed away with your summer clothes, though. Daily broad-spectrum SPF remains an important part of protecting your skin year-round—even through a Utah winter.

IPL Photofacial: For Brown Spots and Redness

If summer left behind visible brown spots, uneven pigmentation or redness, an IPL Photofacial may be one option to consider.

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses targeted wavelengths of light to address pigment and vascular concerns in the skin. At ReJuvU, we use IPL to help improve the appearance of sun damage, brown spots, uneven skin tone and redness.

One advantage of IPL is that it can address more than one color-related concern within a treatment plan. For the right candidate, it can be an effective option when the goal is a clearer, more even-looking complexion.

IPL isn't appropriate for every type of pigmentation, however. Melasma requires a more individualized approach, which is one reason identifying the type of pigmentation matters before choosing a treatment.

Pico Laser: For Melasma & Stubborn Pigmentation

Some pigmentation requires a different approach. Melasma, in particular, can be complex and often requires an individualized treatment plan rather than treating it the same way as sun-induced pigmentation.

At ReJuvU, our Pico laser uses extremely short pulses of energy to target unwanted pigment while minimizing heat in the skin. Depending on the type of pigmentation and your individual skin, Pico may be considered for concerns such as melasma, sun spots, age spots and stubborn uneven pigmentation.

Because melasma is a chronic condition and can recur, treatment is often most successful as part of an ongoing plan that may include professional treatments, diligent sun protection and appropriate home skincare.

Chemical Peels: For Dullness, Tone & Texture

Not every post-summer skin concern needs a laser. Chemical peels can be an excellent way to refresh dull, rough or uneven-looking skin by encouraging controlled exfoliation of the outer layers of the skin.

Depending on your skin, concerns and treatment plan, a chemical peel may help improve the appearance of:

 • Uneven tone
• Dullness
• Rough texture
• Fine lines
• Certain types of pigmentation
• Acne-prone or congested skin

At ReJuvU, chemical peels can also be customized—or “cocktailed”—based on your skin and the concerns we’re targeting. Whether the goal is to address signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, dehydration, congestion or overall tone and texture, we can select and combine appropriate peel options as part of your treatment plan.

Peels vary significantly in formulation and strength, so the goal isn't simply to choose the “strongest” peel. The right peel should be selected based on your skin, your concerns and the results you're hoping to achieve.

Microneedling: When Texture Is Part of the Problem

If your post-summer concerns include more than pigmentation—such as uneven texture, enlarged-looking pores, fine lines or acne scarring—microneedling may be another option to consider.

At ReJuvU, we use InnoPen® Medical Microneedling to create controlled microchannels in the skin, triggering the skin’s natural repair response and supporting new collagen and elastin production.

 • Uneven skin texture
• Enlarged-looking pores
• Fine lines
• Acne scars
• Overall skin quality

Unlike IPL or Pico, microneedling isn’t primarily designed to target pigment. Instead, it focuses on collagen remodeling and skin quality, which is why it can play a very different role in a personalized skin rejuvenation plan.

RF Microneedling: Taking Collagen Remodeling Further

RF Microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered beneath the skin’s surface. At ReJuvU, we use Pixel8 RF Microneedling when we want to take collagen remodeling beyond traditional microneedling.

Because the radiofrequency energy is delivered at controlled depths within the skin, RF Microneedling may be considered for concerns such as:

 • Uneven or rough skin texture
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Acne scarring
• Enlarged-looking pores
• Mild skin laxity
• Overall skin rejuvenation

So, what’s the difference between microneedling and RF Microneedling? Both treatments create controlled microchannels and stimulate the skin’s natural repair response. RF Microneedling adds radiofrequency energy to create controlled heating within the deeper layers of the skin, providing an additional stimulus for collagen remodeling.

Which approach makes the most sense depends on your skin, your concerns, your treatment history, downtime preferences and overall goals.

What If You Have More Than One Skin Concern?

Most people don’t have just one skin concern. You may notice sun spots along with uneven texture, redness along with fine lines, or pigmentation combined with changes in firmness and overall skin quality.

That’s why skin rejuvenation doesn’t always come down to choosing one treatment.

At ReJuvU, we look at the concerns you want to address and how different treatments may complement one another over time. For example, a personalized plan might use IPL to address visible sun damage and redness, microneedling or RF Microneedling to focus on texture and collagen remodeling, or a customized chemical peel to support tone, exfoliation and overall skin renewal.

For more complex pigmentation such as melasma, the plan may look different. Treatments such as Pico laser may be considered alongside consistent sun protection and carefully selected home skincare.

The goal isn’t to do every treatment. It’s to choose the right treatment—or combination of treatments—for your skin, your priorities and your timeline.

Don’t Forget the Home Care

Professional treatments can address concerns that skincare alone may not be able to correct, but what you do at home still matters.

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is especially important when treating sun damage and pigmentation. A personalized home-care routine may also include ingredients selected to support hydration, brighten uneven-looking skin, encourage healthy skin renewal and protect the results of your professional treatments.

At ReJuvU, we carry professional skincare from SkinMedica®, ALASTIN Skincare® and Eminence Organic Skin Care®, allowing us to recommend products based on your skin and treatment plan rather than taking a one-routine-fits-all approach.
